Chevonia McBride

Founder & Mentor

Chevonia McBride was born and raised on the beautiful island of Grand Bahama in The Bahamas. She attended Mary Star of the Sea School, Discovery Primary and Grand Bahama Catholic High School. She furthered her studies at The University of Buckingham, England where she obtained an LLB in Law. 

 

Chevonia grew up in the family business “A Social Affair Bahamas” an event management and production company and later pursued a certification in Event and Project Management. She has worked for The Bahamas Government for 8 years as a Project Officer and is a Justice of The Peace for Grand Bahama Island. 

 

Inspired by her passion for youth development in the Bahamas, Chevonia became a Certified Youth Leader, Etiquette Consultant, Life Coach and Motivational Speaker. Chevonia continues to motivate young women as a mentor and founder of Sisters of Strength Bahamas, a non-profit organization geared toward the development of girls and young women in The Bahamas.

 

Chevonia attends New Destiny Kingdom Center and serves as the Church Administrator. As she continues to walk in faith as an ambassador of the kingdom she seeks to renew culture, transform society and to ensure no girl is left behind.

 

Chevonia enjoys traveling, music, movies, spending time with family and friends, and advocating for girls and young women.
 


Davina Rutherford

Director & Mentor

Davina Rutherford, Owner of MYB Bahamas, an event management company that specializes in planning, logistics and execution. With over 15 years of experience gaining most of her knowledge while working at Nesbitt Rentals and training under experts such as Janet Albury of V.I.P Services.

 

In 2009 upon returning home from college while working as a Customer Service Representative at RBC Finco, she started Mirage Wedding and Event Planning. After a few years of trial and error the company evolved into MYB Bahamas and Davina went into entrepreneurship full time in 2013.

 

Since then she has worked with corporations including Pelican Bay, Spartan Builders and Consultants and Open Current. Davina has also worked with Sisters of Strength, Our Grand Bahama the IL Cares Foundation on their community initiatives and OWN Talks, a seminar for entrepreneurs.

 

Known for blazing trails, Davina served as the first female president of The Rotary Club of Sunset. With a passion for giving back to the community and an advocate for young adults Davina has made a commitment to being a part of community initiatives that assist others and provide opportunities for them to grow. Founder of The Little Warrior Campaign, an initiative that raises aware for childhood cancer and coordinator of the On Your Mark Track Clinic featuring Olympic Medalist and 2 time World Champion Justin Gatlin Davina believes that we are blessed to be a blessing.

 

As member of Sisters of Strength and mentor Davina lives by the words of the former first Lady Michelle Obama, “When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you don’t slam it shut behind you. You reach back and you give other folks the same chance that helped you succeed".

 

 


Bronell DeGama

Director & Mentor

Born and raised in Grand Bahama, Bronell attended Calvary Academy, Walter P. Parker Primary and St. Georges' High School where she graduated as Head Girl.


She has been employed in Air Traffic Services at the Grand Bahama International Airport from June 2003.

 

Bronell has served on the Board of Directors for Sisters of Strength since 2013. She is also a former Rotaract Club of Freeport member; currently a member of the Rotary Club of Sunset GB and has served in various positions on the Club's board since joining in May 2013.

 

Bronell has attended Calvary Temple Assembly of God since birth and it is still her choice place of worship.

 

Bronell enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, music, movie watching and a good laugh.


Ciora Nixon

Director & Mentor

Ciora Nixon is a former student and graduate of St. George’s High School. 
 

She is also a former member of the Rotaract Club of Freeport where their motto is “Service Above Self”.
 

She is currently employed at Maecal Electronics which is one of the leading production companies in the Bahamas  where she oversees their office operations.
 

Ms. Nixon enjoys traveling, looking at real estate, forex trading and sports.

Her daily motto is: “Its not how you start, but how you finish”


M. Evangeline McBride-Outten

Director & Mentor

Poise for Excellence and Dedicated to service, Mary Evangeline McBride-Outten JP., C.W.S, affectionately known as “Vanje”, has been a long-time promoter and ambassador of goodwill for Freeport and Grand Bahama.  

 

Achieving pinnacles in her career as Vice President/General Manager of the Bahamas’ First Waterfront Festival Marketplace and Marina, Port Lucaya. With thirty years’ experience in management and the creation of major corporate and community events, she possesses a flair that is unique and breathes a fresh perspective to planning, structure and organization within the industry. Vanje as a dedicated community volunteer continues to use this foundation to assist in the socioeconomic and cultural development of Grand Bahama.

 

Originally from Inagua, Bahamas, Vanje moved to Freeport joining the Grand Bahama Port Authority Group of Companies in 1976.  During her twenty-year tenure with the GBPA, her zeal and professionalism allowed for matriculation to several senior positions within the organization, including the Land Sales department of The Development Company continuing to Sales and Marketing and Leasing Director for Bourbon Street Limited Trading as Port Lucaya.

 

Vanje became the first entrepreneur/operator in the Destination Weddings business by establishing the first independent company “A Social Affair Bahamas” affiliated with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. A company which to date has been branded and recognized internationally as one of the Bahamas leading Destination Management Companies.

 

Her commitment to the Grand Bahama community, which has been home to Ms. McBride-Outten, a wife and mother of six children, since 1975, has motivated her involvement in a variety of service projects and children’s causes, including; 10 years as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for The Grand Bahama Children’s Home, a past Executive member of the Grand Bahama Red Cross Association Fundraising Committee.

 

Founder and Director of the first Youth Choir of The Pro Cathedral of Christ the King Anglican Church, a founding member of the Grand Bahama Chorale singing group, a past Executive member of the Business and Professional Woman’s Association of Grand Bahama, and Founder of the column “Wedding Jitters”, which was published by The Freeport News.

 

Vanje was also the past Chairman of the Independence Silver Jubilee Decorations Committee, Member and Certified Wedding Specialist with Weddings Beautiful and the National Bridal Service, a member of Special Events Planning Organization and numerous other civic and church organizations, including Director of Sisters of Strength Bahamas.

 

With this proven record of thirty years and her keen interest, Vanje has continued to promote an epic fashion of support and fight for the growth and development in the wedding industry and the tourism aspects of Grand Bahama in its entirety.

 

Vanje’s belief is simple “If you believe it, You can achieve it”.

Sisters Of Strength is a professional development program for young ladies to empower, educate, motivate and elevate them to develop life skills, form positive attitudes, high-self-esteem and strengthened leadership skills.  Our aim is also to raise awareness of social issues through educational seminars, conferences and girl talk sessions that support and empower young women to be confident, assertive and productive contributing members of society.
